I visited the museum a few years ago & got a great tour from a man that was quite involved with the whole museum. He said that those early officers didn't have guns either, but nonetheless, crime was drastically reduced. If a white person was caught criming, they would have to call in a white officer. Also the involvement of three notable Jewish lawyers was instrumental in setting up the court. I would recommend a visit to anyone (and have !)

Thank you for the comment, Mark. You may have met with Terrance who is the director of the museum. He is a great guy and very passionate about the museum and the story of the officers who worked there. It is a place that everyone should visit if they are in the Miami area.

Yes, it was him. He offered the tour, but I was only one person, so I was thinking no, but the group of four coming off his previous tour convinced me say yes. Great decision - you get so much more out the visit with a guide and Terrence is intimately knowledgeable and points you in the right direction to discover many interesting details that you would have missed on your own.
