Remembering Coconut Grove and Biscayne Bay Yacht Club pioneer, and world renowned author, Kirk Munroe, who was a long-time and celebrated resident of the Grove during its formative years.
I have found the common ancestor between “Charles” Kirk Munroe and Ralph M. Munroe going back to the first Munroe who came to American from Scotland, William Munroe, born in 1625 near Inverness. The family settled in Lexington Massachusetts where they remained for many generations and to this day. The common ancestor is 6 generations removed from both Ralph and Kirk so unless they had a family genealogy book as I do, they wouldn’t have known they were related. Ralph Munroe is my great grandfather.
Thank you for sharing your family history. Although Kirk Munroe's obituary claimed that Ralph and he were cousins, Ralph Munroe claimed there was no relation in his book "Commodore Story". Have you found evidence that they were related?
Yes. Evidence of their relation is in the book The History and Genealogy of the Lexington, Mass. Munroes, by RS. Munroe, second edition. There is a nice little bio about both RMM and CKM so I know it's them; and I traced their ancestors back generation by generation for a total of 7 generations to the common ancestor. Both RMM and CKM are seventh generation. They probably had no idea they were related as this book was not published until 1966.
That is great. I will have to update my information about the two men. I guess Kirk Munroe's obituary had it right all along. Thank you for this information!
Thanks again to Mr. Casey Piket. His excellent story about Kirk Munroe inspired me to re-read some portions of Helen Muir's- Miami USA. She also has some great Munroe stories for those wishing to learn more about these "pioneers".

If you send me your info, I can share the detailed ancestry of both men if you like.
I will send you an e-mail which will have my contact information. Thank you!
