Hi Casey, after Churchill left Miami Beach, he went to Lantana to visit his dear friend Consuelo Vanderbilt and her husband Jacque Balsan on Hypoluxo Island for five days where he put the finishing touches on his “Sinews of Peace” speech before heading to Missouri. The “Casa Alva” estate still stands today and my dear friends who own it have memorialized the room where he stayed. I love this history. Thank you for sharing this article that taught me what Churchill was doing before he arrived to my neighborhood of Hypoluxo Island in 1946.
Please where did Col Clarke live in Miami Beach?
5905 North Bay Road. The home is still standing. Go to https://www.miami-history.com/p/winston-churchills-south-florida-visit-in-1946-part-1-of-2 to see pictures of the residence.
